Remus had left in a bit of a hurry after Lily and James had gone off to do his Prefect duties-- something Lily had not been around for. Odd, considering Lily was the most punctual, honor-bound girl he knew. But, she wasn't there regardless, so he basically just did the rounds and came back finally, when they were almost at Hogwarts, to change into his robes.
He found Marly sitting alone in the compartment, still in her Muggle clothes, with a slightly angered expression on her face. Confused, he sat beside her-- changing would have to wait.
"Did I miss something?"

She looked up at Remus, and smiled a bit, sitting up. "You've missed alot. Actually, all the things you've missed could probably be put into a book the size of Les Miserables. Not that it's your fault of course, but I answered your question, either way.
"Oh, and, before you ask your next question...Lily went to talk to the Head Girl, I think, and James and Sirius are chasing down the trolley, I believe."

((heh I should take a pic of my unabridged copy of Les Mis... my friends and I call it the brick))
"Of course they are." Remus just shook his head. Between them James and Sirius could polish off a horse in roughly ten minutes.
"But please elaborate on what I've missed... you have me curious, now."

"Well, you've missed alot, but I'll try," she sighed, dramatically. "Well, believe it or not...you may want to sit down for this...believe it or not, James and Lily are now an item. And they're grown quite fond of snogging, may I add. Poor Sirius and I have been scarred pretty badly."

"Wait, hold up-- James and Lily are an item? James and Lily?" Remus wasn't angry, just more... shocked, really. He and Sirius had practically been betting on the number of times Lily would turn James down this year. "The hell has the world come to?"

"That's exactly the reaction me and Sirius had. I think they were joking at first, actually, but then we told them to prove it, they snogged, they made it official, and they haven't been able to keep their hands to themselves since. It's quite disgusting," she said, looking sick.
"So, that forced me and Sirius to keep each other company and have a civil conversation. Then we played exploding snaps, I lost, and well...now I'm watching the compartment while they're off galavanting!"

Remus reached over and squeezed Marly's shoulder. "Trust me, I don't like the whole Lily-James issue anymore than you do. But, I think we'll have to live with it. You know James... he's completely smitten. Unfortunately. Much as I like Lily, I don't quite know how they'd work as a couple."

"It's not that I don't like it. I mean, I was the one trying to push them together all this time, but I didn't think they'd be snogging every second. That's the sickening part that I could really do without!" she said, throwing up her hands.
"I guess I should be happy, and I am, though I'm quite sure Sirius is pretty ticked off, but...they should keep the public affection to a minimum."

"James has never been a hands-off type of bloke, let me tell you." Remus shook his head. "I'm happy for them, too, though I can sort of see why Sirius is so upset."

"I'm sort of guessing it's the whole best friend get's someone, suddenly you're invisible to them sort of thing?" she guessed. "Because, if so, I'm feeling the same way, though I'm not quite as cranky about it, really. Lily's never actually acted like this, but I'm sure she won't ignore me all the time, right?"

"I don't think so, no. Not at first. But, you never know what could happen."

"I hope not," she said, sighing. "Well, at least if it does I've still got you and Sirius. Mary and Alice haven't exactly been around lately, either. Mary's got some new friends that she's been hanging out with, and Alice is always with that bloke, Longbottom."
She looked out the window--it was almost dark, and they would be arriving soon. And she and Remus were still in regular clothes. "We should probably be changing into our robes--we'll be there soon."

Remus glanced at the window himself, and nodded. "You're right." He smiled a little in anticipation and pulled his and Marly's trunks down from overhead, courteous as always. He and Marly had known each other long enough that they were comfortable enough to change in the presence of the other.
Marlene didn't know how he'd gotten his scars-- well, she didn't know the truth, anyway. Over the years he'd made excuses-- that he'd gotten into fights as a child, that he'd fallen while hiking, et cetera, et cetera. Anything to avoid telling the truth-- that they were products of his monthly transformations.
But the scars were there nonetheless as Remus pulled off his shirt and rummaged in his trunk for a button-down. He wasn't self-conscious about them, exactly, but they still weren't something he was proud of.

Marly wasn't exactly little miss shy when it came to getting dressed. She'd mastered the art of changing quickly and without exposing anything. It wasn't that she was haughty and proud and happy to show off herself--it was that she knew how to change in subtle, quick ways so that no one saw. It came from the many years of sports--locker rooms weren't exactly private.
She pulled off her shirt, with a white tank top on underneath, which she left on, and looked for a blouse and her sweater--Merlin, she hated uniforms. From one of the few times she gotten in the war path of the angered Brad, she had a bruise on her back on the shoulder, and bruise on the back of her arm near her elbow, from being shoved into the door, her arm hitting the doorknob.
She kept in mind his apology, after, as little as it was of a mumble. And really, it was one of the only times--it happened only, maybe, 3 times? She wasn't concerned with it. It anyone asked, it was a bruise from football. Besides, she didn't talk about her personal life, even when it was good. She just didn't share.

When Remus turned as he buttoned his shirt, he noticed something odd as Marlene stood with her back to him. Two bruises, one on her shoulder and one on her elbow. Not exactly the most common places to have bruises... or to have gotten them by accident.
Concerned, his suspicions roused, Remus took a step toward her and very lightly fingered the bruise on her shoulder. "Marlene, what's this?" he asked her, very quietly.
