And so it was, summer was at a long end and another year was to begin for the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For most, summer seemed to whiz by, merely because they wanted it to last forever. No schoolwork, no homework, no fruffy uniforms. Who wouldn't want it to last forever?
Marly didn't.
Marly had to spend her second summer living with her mother and Brad. Brad the miserable git. Brad. She scowled at the mere thought of the name. She wished to God she could like with Will or Jake--her brothers--or better yet, her father were he still alive. But no, she was stuck with her careless slut of a mother and her abusive git of a fiance, Brad. The American git. She hated him.
No need to dwell on it, Marly.
She walked through to the platform, smiling at the sight of the crimson train in front of her. She heard the screams of friends all around, greeting each other after a summer apart. She saw the frightened first years, trembling at the sight of the train. It made her smile, remembering her first year.
Not spotting any of her friends, she left her trunk at the loading dock, where they put all of them on a cart, and brought only her school bag, with a few things, including her school robes, inside of it and walked on, looking for a familiar face. She was fairly early, after all.
About to give up, she finally found Remus Lupin, alone in a compartment, with his nose in a book. She opened the door quietly and sat next to him, smirking.
"You never stop with all this, do you?"

"How long have you known me now, Marly?" Remus laughed lightly and smiled, setting his book on his crossed legs. The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas. "It's quite interesting, though; one of my favorites. I recommend it."

"Five years," she said. "And if I wanted to, I would've gone to Muggle boarding school, which I would never do, merely because it would be giving into my mother's wishes. But if I ever become a reader such as yourself, I'll consider it," she laughed. "How was your holiday?"

"Same as ever, shut up in a small town with nothing to do." Remus flinched his shoulders in a shrug. "Mum was working at the shop. Dad... well, truthfully, Dad wasn't very well." He was drinking again, undoubtedly because of Remus. "It wasn't the most eventful holiday I've ever had. Did a lot of reading."

"Even if you did have an eventful one, you would've read alot, Remus," she laughed a bit. "But it sounds like it was uneventful for the both of us. I didn't get a chance to play football this summer, which really was all I did during the holiday. My ball, my cleats, my shin guards...all sitting in my closet untouched. Tragic, really."

"Knowing you, it certainly is," Remus laughed, knowing his friend was athletic, and a bit of a tomboy. "And I'm sure England sustained the tragic loss of one of its best football players because of it..." he teased, playing a bit with her ego.
He toyed with the frayed cover of the book and his bookmark alternately. "Have you seen anyone else from Gryffindor? I gather we're early, but you never know."

"I have no idea what they did without me," she sighed. "It's like the Holyhead Harpies without their Seeker--they're nothing." She was a tomboy with a fairly large ego--she might as well have been Marlene Potter or Marlene Black. Of course, she knew where to draw the line, unlike them.
"No, I looked around, but I didn't see anyone. I'm actually quite surprised Lily isn't here, yet. James and Sirius I expect to be late, but not the rest."

"Well, I'm the only punctual one of the group. And I have the best sense of direction; James could not find North if he had five compasses, I swear," Remus rolled his eyes.
"And you are right about Lily. She's usually one of the first ones here. Her and Snivellus." His expression showed his distaste and slight contempt.

"Don't get me started on the greaseball," she said, rolling her eyes. "If I run into him once this year, I swear I'll kill him. The bloody git deserves it after last year. Him and all his Death Eater friends, especially Bellatrix. Oh, the things I wish I could do to her," she practically growled.
Everyone knew that one of the personal rivalries was between Bellatrix and Marlene. They'd never liked each other--why would they? A Gryffindor muggle born and a pureblood Slytherin? Not likely. That, and Bellatrix seemed to have it out for her ever since she became friends with Sirius, who Bellatrix also had it out for--for being a 'traitor'.

"Trust me, I would be there with you," Remus muttered. He, too, hated Bellatrix, Snape, and all the Death Eaters-- mostly because they had it in for Sirius, something Remus couldn't forgive. Loyal to the last, was Remus Lupin. "They're daft, every one of them. Sodding fools."

Marlene smirked a bit, "Merlin, you really do have an angry side. Y'know, for a minute there I was thinking you weren't like James and Sirius," she joked, laughing a bit. She knew they were all alike and different in their own ways. Mostly, though, she knew they clicked better than most friends.

"All I'm saying is, Bellatrix shouldn't be going after Sirius, not when she knows about me and James. She'll get what's coming to her if she tries anything." Remus tried hard to avoid clenching his fist over his wand.

"Well, to make it fair, since you and James are both gentlemen and wouldn't attack a lady unless absolutely necessary," she started, a glint in her eyes. "I think I might find her later on in the train ride. Just give her a welcome back present. Besides, all those times she called me a mudblood add up after awhile."

"I will gladly assist you," Remus volunteered. "Very gladly. Trust me. Her or that Dolohov friend of hers... arrogant bastard."

((Oh, the irony, Trai! It's killing me! Haha))
She smiled from ear to ear, "It's settled, then. Best way for the others, though. They'll kill us if we do anything without them, the blokes. Where are they, anyway?" She wondered outloud. The train would be leaving soon, and there was still no sign of anyone.
