If Lily had a mean bone in her body, she would agree with Marlene. Then again, if Lily had a mean bone in her body, then she just wouldn't be Lily. Severus just looked so... depressed and lonely. "Marly, please... stop. For me?"

She shook her head, rolling her eyes at the same time. "Whatever, Lily. Really, though, he doesn't deserve a drop of your...pity or kindness," she said, finishing with that, for now, anyway. She'd hold her tongue as long as she could, but she didn't see why. It was his kind that was ruining this world. It was his kind that killed her father. He acted as if he was better than them, when he was far from it. Marly could take him out with a snap.

She knew he didn't. She told him that he didn't. "It's not for him," Lily told her friends quietly, her lips barely moving. "It's for you. I don't want you to get into trouble."

He held in a Shut up for Marlene, and looked down tapping his foot. All that he wanted to tell Lily was boiling in the back of his throat but, especially with Mars there, he didn't have near enough courage to speak any of it. Most of it Lily had heard anyway, the rest just wasn't good enough. Nothing he could say would be enough, ever.

Marlene bit her tongue, and kept a glare in the direction of Snape. Even if the git did have the guts to say anything to Lily, nothing would ever be good enough. Not for Marlene's standards, anyway. And though she knew Lily missed having Snape as a friend, the wound was too deep and too wounded to ever be repaired.
Why couldn't he realize it and move on? He'd chosen his way. He chose to be with killers--people who sought after people like Marlene and Lily and murdered them and their families. He was a true Slytherin, and Lily was a Gryffindor, through and through. Couldn't he see that?

Merlin, this is awkward... Was all that was running through Lily's mind. Actually, that was a lie. There were millions of things running through Lily's mind. That thought was the one thought that was actually coherent. "Maybe... we should go..." Lily murmured aloud. She didn't want to, though. She had known Severus long enough to know that something was going on. She didn't want to hear it... but she did want to hear something.

"No." he said strongly, looking up with a deep breath through his teeth. "You don't have to leave. I'll go." his words airy and week but finally showing a little backbone. He turned on his heels starting to continue his walk, with out his originally planned turn. He put his hand on the fresh bruise of his oppisite arm as he began to travel away from the girls. He couldn't go home, but he obviously couldn't stay around here.

"Like you should, bloody git," Marlene mumbled under her breath as he walked away. She couldn't believe there was a time when she ever considered giving that sodding git the time of day. She once even thought about trying to be nice to him, of all things! But now, there would never be a chance.
She glanced over at Lily, looking for a reaction and holding her tongue as she knew she should, and surprisingly was actually doing, for once.

"Is something wrong with your arm?" Lily called out before she could stop herself. Bloody... Fuck! She regretted calling him back the second the words left her lips.

"Oh, bloody hell, Lily!" Marlene let out, smacking her forehead and groaning. What was she thinking?! She was being caring and compassionate to the scum! Damn Lily and her...Lilyness! Why couldn't she be more like Marlene at times like this?

... He stopped walked and gulped deeply as he held in his breath. Severus pulled his arm closer into his chest and closed his eyes questioning what to do. The minute she asked a part of him wanted to take off running. Another wanted to fall and sit at her feet as she talked him down, gave him a safe place to spend the night, and just make everything better like she had done thousands of times before. That obvious wasn't an option now.

Well, now that she's asked him... "... Is there? Sev?" She took a few steps closer to him. She didn't expect Marlene to follow her, nor did she care if she did or not.

When she got close enough he flinched, opening his eyes, and pulling away taking one step back on his left foot. His breath so heavy now his was practicly panting. He hadn't expected her to be doing what she was. If it were anyone else he'd even be questioning wheither she was really approching with kindness or other intentions in mind.

She couldn't help it. She was nurturing by nature. Besides, if one wants to be a Healer, one can never turn down a person. No matter how lowly he is. "Sev, c'mon. Was it him again?" Lily asked gently, reaching out for him arm. "You know I'm not going to hurt you."

Marlene watched with a glare, and with a head shake she gave the two space, going back to her swing, glancing occasionally. She couldn't talk Lily out of being Lily, as much as she wished she could.
She had no clue what was going on, but she had a small idea, that she doubted somewhat, from the tone Lily was using, and the phrases she was using. An idea she was recently familiar with. Whether he was Snape or not, she hoped she wasn't right--no one deserved it. That, or it was some town bully. Then, instantly, she wiped every thought from her head on it. She couldn't actually pity him. It was a quick thought that was gone in an instant.
It was his group that killed her dad, and it was him who called her best friend the m-word.
That doesn't get forgiven, no matter who you are. But especially if you're a Slytherin. He didn't deserve the friendship in the first place, in many peoples' eyes. Hell, if you considered it, not many people at all deserved the friendship of such a caring girl like Lily.
Marlene swung her legs, trying to block out the urges to go and hex Snape, or even punch him. Basically, she was trying to hold herself back from hurting him, and she was only doing it for Lily.
