Though Marlene had moved away from Lily since her dad passed away, she, by no means, lost touch. As often as she could, in fact, she went 'home', going to their favorite park to relax, or even to kick around a football. She didn't like being at her mother's house under any circumstances.
Of course, ever since they started Hogwarts, the girls had a tradition of watching the sunset in the park, and just lying in the grass for their last night of summer, before going back to Hogwarts. And even a move wouldn't break that tradition.
In jean shorts and a Holyhead Harpies quidditch sweatshirt, Marly walked all the way to the park, looking around for her best friend.

Lily had already been at the park for hours now. She was at the swings, pumping her legs only slightly, the swing moving a short bit. Her mind was other places. She stared at the bush across from her. The bush where he had come out.. when she first met hi-- No. No, she wouldn't let herself think of him. C'mon, Evans. Get your mind on proper things. Like Marly. Where is she, anyway?

Marlene walked around the park with her hands jammed in her pockets, watching as the last of the children ran home, or were being dragged home by their mothers. The breeze brushed past her face--a sure sign of autumn. God, did she love autumn. It reminded her of Hogwarts, and, school or not, that was her true home.
Spotting a flash of red moving on the swings, Marly walked quietly behind Lily and pushed her higher into the air without even letting her know she was there, yet.

Lily gave a bit of a yelp, jumping off the swing in her startled state. She turned around, her red-head-temper getting the best of her, but melting as she saw who it was. It wasn't who she thought it would be at all. "Marly!" She sighed. "You nearly gave me a fright!"

Marly laughed, holding her stomach as she made her way over to the swing beside Lily. She sat down on it, her hands wrapping around the chains holding her up. Her legs pushed her back and her body moved with the swing, pumping her higher.
"Sorry, Lils, I was just having a laugh, that's all," she said. "I haven't seen you in a week, I was excited. Forgive me, oh mighty Lily," she teased.

"You're just lucky you're yourself. And not some other person," Lily sat beside her. "Or I might've had to go to Azkaban for hexing you in two."

Marlene looked at her, baffled as to who she was talking about. She narrowed it down to either James Potter or Severus Snape, and seeing as James didn't live quite as close to here, she reckoned it was Severus.
"Don't tell me you've given that bloke any thought?"

"I haven't!" Lily lied. "Well... maybe a bit. A little. A lot..."

"Oh, Lily," she said, sighing. "You're far better off thinking about James Potter than Severus Snape! Why do you even give him a second thought? Honestly, the sodding prat doesn't even deserve for you to acknowledge his existence anymore!" she practically yelled, her infamous temper rising at the mere thought of Severus Snape, the bloke.

"Well, it's not like I'm thinking good of him," Lily twirled her swing back and forth. "If I was, I'd hug him if I saw him, rather than hex, yes? Besides, I'd rather think of the dentist first than James Potter."

Marly rolled her eyes with a small smirk she hoped Lily didn't notice. Like herself, Lily was in denial. Though, with Lily and James it was rather annoying to wait for Lily to cave. You see, James proclaimed his love for her daily and hourly--nearly everytime he saw her. He talked about her constantly like she was a goddess, and in his eyes, she was one. Lily acted as if she hated him--Marly, for one, knew better. And she wasn't the only one. It was an apparent attraction--much different from her and Sirius. Her and Sirius didn't even like each other!
"Oh, Lily, Lily, what ever am I going to do with you?" she laughed. "Why don't you give the poor bloke a chance? He really means well, you know."

"He is a sodding, arrogant toerag," Lily spat. "And he's truly wicked. He just picked on Severus because he was close to me. He was jealous. A jealous, wicked, sodding, arrogant toerag."

"Now, now, let's examine you're judgement, shall we?" Marlene said, coming to the defense of her dear friend without ticking off her best friend, hopefully. "James picked on Severus because he's a Slytherin, and because he hangs out with those bloody Death-Eaters in the making, not just because he's jealous. If anything, I don't think he was ever jealous of Severus besides the fact that you talked to the prat civilly, unlike you do to James."
If any Gryffindor hated Death Eaters and the wanna-be's in Slytherin, it was Marlene, Sirius, or their group of friends. Marlene's father was killed by a group, Sirius's whole family were some, and the rest were fiercely loyal friends. Plus, the whole Gyffindor-Slytherin rivalry never wavered to exist.
"Also, I know the bloke can have quite the over-sized ego, but he's just being a 16 year old boy, Lily. They all act like that. Really, you should just give in. We all know you like him, deep down," she teased, though serious on some level.

"No they don't. Remus doesn't. Sev... didn't. Potter thinks he could just... scoop me up like the rest of his notches in his bed post. He is more... " Lily made some sort of noise in disgust. "Can we not talk about him? I'd rather put off the thought of sharing oxygen with the man for as long as I could."

"Merlin, Lily, you know he wants you to be more than a notch. Hold that thought--you called him a man, not a boy! You do like him!" she said, a bright grin on her face. Lily was like a mother or a big sister to Marlene, for the most part. She kept her in line and was the only one who Marlene would actually listen to. Lily was the only one who seemed to know how to deal with her temper and her crazy antics during said temper.
But when Marlene got the chance to have something on Lily, she grabbed it. "I'll drop it, but I know it's true."
