"I think you'd make a great Healer, so long as you don't refuse service to us athletes that you despise when we get hurt," she teased, laughing. She swung one more time, flinging herself off the swing, flying off it and landing on her legs, before collapsing on her back in the sandpit below the swings, looking up at the pink sky, the light dying from it.

"I'd only make you pay extra," Lily laughed, choosing to get off herself and walk next to Marlene, sitting crossed-legged on the ground, her long skirt covering her knees and legs. She pulled her hair into a ponytail and laid back, making sure her knees were together, like a proper English lady.

"Prat," she giggled. "I wouldn't pay you a dime. I'm a special case. You know, best friend, that sort of deal? I shouldn't have to pay a sickle for care, if you're a Healer."
This is what she missed--Lily and her, spending endless nights of the summer together. She'd hardly seen Lily all summer, and though they lived together during the year, it wasn't the same. They were growing up in a world that wasn't as perfect as it seemed when you were growing up.
Not to mention the fact that Death Eaters attacked daily, killing all people except for precious purebloods, because most of them ended up being on the vicious side of the attacks. Those who were traitors were killed, too. Just like muggleborns and half0bloods.

"Best friends shouldn't get themselves into any sort of danger that would require a Healer, or their red-head best friends might have to kill them herself." Lily threatened, knocking her shoulder into Marlene's.

"Oh, shut it, Lily. You know between being a professional chaser for the Holyhead Harpies and a fighter in this dreaful war, I'm going to need you to be my private Healer all the time. You might as well just give me my own room in St.Mungo's," she joked, nudging Lily back.
"I'm kidding. You know me, I don't get hurt," she said proudly. If there were ever a lie, it was that. She always got hurt in sports, or even in fights. But it was rare that she ever went to Madame Pomfrey--asking for help wasn't her forte. Besides, in her opinion, you don't go unless it's mind numbing pain. Period.

"I'm already your private Healer. How do you think it is that whenever you go to bed in pain, you wake up miraculously better?" Lily asked with a sly grin.

"You sneaky, sneaky girl," she laughed. "I guess I should be thanking you, though I never asked for any help, missy. But it was very nice of you to think of me in your spare time away from books and homework," she teased again. Lily was a well known smarty, much like Remus. If there was any marauder Lily got along with, it was Remus.

"I'm just a good soul, what can I say?" Lily giggled. "Oh no, I must be channeling Potter or something. I'm getting a big ego. Quick, Mar, pop it!"

"I'd rather not. See, if you two are alike, there's a better chance of you two shagging each other's brains out and falling madly in love, and there's a sight I think we all want to see, because frankly, we're all sick of waiting," she got out all in one breath, smiling as she surpressed a laugh. She knew Lily Evans would fall for James this year. This would be the year, for sure.

"MARLENE!" Lily pushed her friend's shoulder away. "I will not be SHAGGING James Potter! Nor will I be falling in love with him, because he is an ARROGANT bastard! Get it through your seemingly thick head!"

Marlene burst out into a huge fit of laughs, rolling over as she did so. At some point, while still laughing, she stood up, backing up slowly away from Lily. "Oh, Lily, Lily you love James Potter! Did I hear you correctly? Oh dear, you want to shag him senseless? Oh Lily, do behave! Act like a young lady!" she screamed at the top of her lungs, a wicked grin on her face. Any minute now, Lily's cheeks would flush to a crinsom red with anger.

"Marlene McKinnon!" Lily got up, stamping her foot in a rage. "I will not stand here and be... fooled with! I will just turn around and go home! Now stop it! Or-or... STOP LAUGHING!"

Marlene doubled over, holding her stomach, almost at a complete loss of air as her laughing persisted. She dropped to her knees, rolling on her side as she laughed. "It hurts!" she cried out through laughs, clutching at her stomach. "Oh, great Healer who wants to shag Potter, come rescue me," she cried out, laughing even harder, if possible.

As he turned, his hand rushing along the lightpost, he stopped with a small gasp of unfortunate surprise and stopped dead in his tracks. He took a step back, afraid of being seen, for sure as it was night the girls would run off without a word to him. He would kill to talk to Lily right about now, but as unlikely as it was he'd settle for just a quick glance. He missed her horribly. It hurt not see her as often as he use to, but seeing her at the very end of the long non-communicating summer hurt way worse. He swallowed, finally taking a breath. He wondered if he should be sneaking around like this. Just because it was Lily, he decided against sticking around. He'd see her tomorrow anyway and he could stare at her from a distance then. He took another step back, slowly peviting on his feet and began to slowly, step by step, backtrack away...very slowly...taking as much time as he could...his eyes unwilling to turn away just yet.

Marlene was uncontrolable in such a state. It was quite the horror to see, really. The girl was gasping for air like there was no tomorrow. Funny and horrid to watch all the same. Of course, being the goof she was, it wasn't the first time. And it continued on for ages.
Until a dark, shadowy figure caught her eye.
Completely prepared for it to be just some perv kid checking them out or stalking them, or even just trying to spook them off, she didn't take to much caution as she sat up and squinted in the figure's direction. When she realized who it was, her heart stopped. And not in the romantic way--in the furious way.
Her and Severus Snape were never close, but she always made it a point to tolerate him for the sake of Lily. However, she couldn't deny laughing and once taking part in the boys prank on him. She didn't like him at all, she just tolerated him. Those days were long over, though.
Her face scrunched in a threatening, attack like way as her hand flew to her pocket, clunching her wand and putting it at her side. "Beat it, Snivellus, before I hex you to oblivion!"
((Ah, I feel horrible for being like that to GAZ! I'm sorry! Forgive me! Haha))
