"Brad hates you? Why would he hate you? You, of all people?" Remus looked over at her. "Marlene, you're amazing. What is there to dislike?" ((dude's name was Brad, right? Too lazy to go back and look... ))

"You're charming, really," she said, shaking her head with a small smile, which soon faded. "But...I'm a witch. I'm a freak. And, even without those things, there's plenty to dislike. But that's not the point. I'm just...no accepted."

"And the people who don't except you are sodding idiots, Marly. Just ignore them. They're not worth it," he reminded her, insistent.

"Remus, you don't...get it," she said, slightly annoyed. "My family isn't conventional, alright? We're rather...different. My mother isn't exactly an open minded woman, and we have a mutual dislike for each other. And Brad...Brad's an arse. And they're both Muggles who think of people like us as freaks. And...it's just bloody complicated, alright?"

"Okay, okay." Remus held up his hands. "If it makes it any easier, my family's not enthralled with me either."

"Why?" she asked. "I mean, with mine...I'm the freak. But you have wizarding parents, don't you? What's there not to like about you?"

Remus sighed, biting his lip, deciding that if he wanted to say anything, now had to be the time. "I've... been trying to tell you for years."

She looked at him, now utterly confused. "Pardon? Remus, what's going on?"

Remus sighed and leaned his elbows on his knees, rubbing at his temples with his right hand. "Marlene, I..." He tried to think of how to say it. He'd known Marlene for years now, but something in him still rebelled against the notion of him saying anything. But she had to know... he wanted her to know.
"When I was younger, about five, I was... bitten. Fenrir Greyback... bit... me. I'm... a werewolf, Marly."

She was surprised, really, but then again...she had her suspicions. And Lily had shared her opinions with her, as well. It really did all fit together, like the perfect puzzle. She didn't care, though. He was still the same Remus to her.
"That's it?" she asked. "That's why they're not 'enthralled'? Because you suffered something unfortunate? That's ridiculous."

"The reason they're not enthralled is because I have a disease. I have a disease that can infect other people, and that I can, and have been, persecuted for," he told her. "I know they're afraid of Voldemort getting me, but I also know that even if that happened, they probably wouldn't give a damn. The reasons for why they hate me are just as stupid as the reasons why your mum and dad hate you."

"So?!" she said, her voice rising. Here goes her infamous temper. She stood up. "You're still the same Remus! You're still the same amazing bloke, and sodding fantastic friend that any of us have ever known! It didn't change you--we all liked you, anyway! Even if we had known all along, it wouldn't've changed anything, because...Merlin, this is ticking me off! How could anyone think less of you?"

"It's the way of the world, Marly," Remus sighed. "Things have never been easy for people like me. They never will be. If it wasn't for Dumbledore, I wouldn't even be at Hogwarts. Because I'm too dangerous."

"That's a lie. A sodding lie. Don't you believe it, either," she growled. "Merlin, I'm just so...sick of discrimination like this."

"It's not a lie, Marlene," he said quietly. "If it were a lie, if werewolves weren't dangerous, I wouldn't have been bitten in the first place. I'm... I could hurt someone."
